Abstract

Sometimes we can get unexpected result while performing an experimental research. The topically applicated perfluorophenanthrene, that was instilled in the rats eyes to observe the corneal effect to that drug, caused significant hair loss at lid skin 2 days after application. After 10 to 15 days new hairs were grown up from bare skin. On histopathologic examination loss of the hair follicles and thinning of the subcutaneous fat were observed. No sebaceous gland abnormality was found in the treated skin. These findings suggest the possibility of clinical use of perfluorophenanthrene as depilatory cream.
